Eiffel Tower Facts: The Tower's History, Height, and More!


    The iron Eiffel Tower is on the Champ de Mars in Paris beside the Seine River. The Eiffel Tower is Paris' tallest building and one of the world's most recognizable symbols. Built by engineer Gustave Eiffel, it's a popular tourist attraction that bears his name.

    There are roughly 75 levels in the tower, which has a height of 986 feet. Antenna included, the Eiffel Tower's overall height is 1058 feet or about 81 stories. It was the world's tallest building when it was completed in 1889, a record it retained until the Chrysler Building in New York City was completed in 1930. Furthermore, it is well-known among architects for being one of the few tall structures on the earth with a perfectly vertical design.

    Fifty tones of three graded tones of paint are applied to the tower every seven years in order to prevent corrosion. This is all part of the routine upkeep. In addition, the color of the paint changes from time to time. The tower is now painted a dark brown color. On the first floor, there are polling booths for each color. The winning color will be utilized in a future painting session.


    To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution and the Exposition Universelle, a World's Fair was held in Paris in 1889, and this monument was built between 1887 and 1889. Dedicated on March 31, 1889, the tower was inaugurated May 6, 1889, the following year.

    More than recouping his costs, the Eiffel Tower had permission to stand for 20 years. However, the tower was allowed to remain in place after its initial authorization had expired because it was shown to be helpful for communication purposes. This vehicle became associated with success in the Marne campaign because it was used to convey Parisian taxis to the front lines. The French refused to allow its demolition because it was used to capture the infamous "Mata Hari."

    Located on the first, second, and third floors of the building are the Altitude 95 restaurant, a high-end gourmet restaurant, and Champagne Bar, a bar and restaurant with a breathtaking view of the city.

    It is widely recognized as one of the most visually striking works of structural art ever produced in the modern era.
